it's come out in my old congregation that, not one, but two child molesters have been hiding in my old congregation.
i knew both of them and one of them, an old man, was regularly at my house for field service meetings on a weekly basis.. in my old congregation there's an apostate who was awake long before i was.
unfortunately he cant leave because his wife and children and parents are still full on believers.
There is no "good side" to this, but you need to let your lawyer know about this as part of your custody dispute. Your father in law knew that scumbag 1 was a pedo & you had him over to your home with your young child and he never warned you? And now your ex & young child is staying with this same father in law? we have seen that the society falls back on the line "it is the victims right to approach the authorities" during all the abuse claims.. they use this excuse to try and defend the passive lack of action in failing to report suspected cases of abuse.. a comparison came to mind:.
if we came across a person lying in the street who says they were hit by a car, would we say "it is your absolute right to call the paramedics and police"?.
or would we take the initiative and call those authorities ourselves to help the person?.

spain bethel sent a letter recently last oct 3 interpreting that no elder or sm should request a certificate of sexual offenses as other churches or persons in contact with kids.
again jw.org interprets the law to their behalf.. a group of elders in madrid has sent this letter to ask clarification !!.
They probably don't want their asses sued.
Do you blame them? The headquarters is giving them instructions contrary to the law, while making it clear they are personally responsible for congregation goings on. I'd be covering my ass too. Even if genuinely "in" the religion.

I don't think it's clear they knew about his drug use. From what i understand, he wasn't a regular at the meetings and had a girlfriend, etc. I doubt they knew what he was doing in his own home. Perhaps Larry Graham did, but no one else.
However, once the rumors & conjecture (including the perocet OD a couple weeks before) became public; the fact the memorial was still held at the hall shows clear preferential treatment (or valuing all the free advertising over losing face with members who see the inequality).

i wanted to send an update that today my beautiful grandmother passed away - surrounded by friends and family.

My deepest sympathies. Her story & posts on here have made a profound effect on many people (including myself). She was one of a kind.
And I hope her estranged relatives were able to give her some peace of mind and love before her passing.
